Spring Green General Store
The Spring Green General Store provides a welcome rural oasis. Relax, shop, eat lunch, sit on the front porch, use the rest rooms, or get water for your dog. Take a step back in time when you walk in the door to experience the retail store and restaurant, all in one converted cheese warehouse.
If you're road weary and looking for a good homemade meal, the Cafe at the General Store provides a constantly evolving menu of soups, salads, sandwiches and multi ethnic foods. Kitchen creativity abounds, resulting in daily lunch specials as simply good as "Mom's Tuna Pasta Salad" or as out of the ordinary as the "Vegetarian Indian Meals." The menu is accented by a full offering of specialty coffees, lattes, cappuccinos and micro brewed beer. Weekday mornings a continental breakfast is served, but on the weekends a full and original breakfast menu is provided.
Make sure you take some time to wander through the retail side of the General Store. Discover an inspired collection of Women's clothing and accessories, cards, toys and gifts. Many of the products sold in the gourmet food section have been tested in the restaurant before they land on the retail shelf. You can even take home some of the Ancora Coffee that is served in the restaurant.
A question often asked if the man behind the counter wearing the coveralls (that's co-owner, Todd) is..."What is Bobfest?" Although the General Store produces quarterly special events, by far the best known is Bobfest, an annual Memorial Day Weekend celebration of Bob Dylan's birthday, an outdoor event, with up to 12 hours of fine music and good food. While you're talking with Todd, he can also help with detailed visitor information.
Although considered a part of the downtown business district, it is a bit hard to find the General Store. So look for the big blue building next to the railroad tracks in a wonderful pocket of stores on Albany Street. They are open year round, 7 days a week, Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sun. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Full menu is served until 1/2 hour before closing.
