Just off the beaten path, two blocks from the famous Trollway, is where youâ€™ll discover an Artists studio filled with one of a kind ceramic and mixed media sculptures. Mikel Kelley Studio-Gallery, at 120 South Second is unique because itâ€™s not just a gallery; itâ€™s a working Artists studio where you can get a real feel for the creative space and energy that produces high quality ceramic pieces. Visitors can catch a glimpse of works-in-progress, or query the maker as he hones his craft. Itâ€™s also unique because no one else does it quite the way Mikel Kelley does.

Mikel has been working out of his quiet diggings for over nine years. Check out the large-scale architectural mural that adorns the side of the building his studio is in and the seven that hang on the old Mount Horeb Farmers CO-OP building to get an idea of the complex beauty of which this talented artist is capable. Mikel Kelley Studio-Gallery is open by chance or appointment Monday through Thursday and is consistently open Fridays and Saturdays from 11 to 5 and Sundays 12 to 5. Special appointments can be made by calling ahead.

And remember, to find the truly unique, you sometimes have to tread off the beaten path.
