Spurgeon Vineyards
Award winning wines from estate-grown grapes are a part of the wine experience that waits for you at Spurgeon Vineyards & Winery. Wines from Wisconsin cherries, cranberries and honey round out their line of wines. This is your invitation to sample these fine wines, tour the wine cellars, relax on the deck, or hike up to the hilltops for a view of the vines.
The scenic hills of southwest Wisconsin are a good home to the 16 acres of grape vines. Their location on the hilltops maximizes the sun exposure necessary to develop high quality grapes. It also allows the frost to drain away at critical times in spring and fall. These grapes are a firm foundation for the family owned and operated winery.
Backed by over two decades of commercial winemaking, they have developed a wide line of wines to suit a variety of palates. Dry red and dry white grape wines begin the line, which then move on to semi-sweet grape wines. Rounding out the line are their sweet grape wines, fruit wines and mead (honey wine), all for your enjoyment.
If an inside look is to your liking, they offer tours from April through October. Fully-guided, the tours discuss grape growing and care plus the in-depth steps to wine production. They explain not only what their state-of-the-art equipment does, but also how it works. Tours are offered at noon or by appointment. For the more adventuresome, you are welcome to take a self-guided hike to the top of the hills to see the vines. It is an invigorating 20 minutes to the top, but only 10 minutes back!
A summation of your wine experience is an invitation to enjoy the spacious covered deck. Their gift shop offers wine by the glass as well as cheese (choose from over 20 specialty types), wine, salami, crackers and all sorts of goodies. Of course, the peace and quiet and beautiful scenery are free for your enjoyment.
Spurgeons sponsor four festivals at the winery. All of the festivals run from 10 a.m. til 4 p.m. Kick off the summer season with the Wine & Chocolate Trail. It will be held on May 29 and 30, in conjunction with other local wineries, all of which are located on scenic highways and byways in the hills of Southwest Wisconsin. They will also show you how to match chocolates and wines. This is a truly decadent experience.
Their next festival, scheduled for June 19, is the Wine & Cheese Extravaganza. Gorge yourself with sampling over 30 specialty cheeses from the finest factories in Wisconsin. You can try these cheeses along with a free wine sampling of our entire line of wines. Grilled buffalo burgers and brats will also be available.
October 9 & 10, Columbus Day weekend, are the dates of the Harvest Festival. Enjoy free wine sampling, free winery tours, free live music, grilled buffalo burgers & brats and hayrides thru the vineyards (weather permitting). It’s a great time to spend with your family or to just hang out!
Their Christmas Open House will be held on December 4 & 5. They offer Holiday Gift Baskets, or you can create your own, and they will make them while you wait. There will be specialty product sampling, recipes, gift ideas, and wine discounts.
